The Arakan Rohingya National Alliance (ARNA) welcomes the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly Third Committee resolution “Situation of human rights of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar” (A/C.3/80/L.32/Rev.1). The resolution affirms the need for safe, voluntary and dignified return of the Rohingya and reinforces international recognition of the grave human-rights violations our community continues to face.
For decades, the Rohingya have endured systematic persecution under successive military authorities in Myanmar. These abuses include mass killings, widespread sexual violence, destruction of entire villages and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. These crimes represent one of the most well-documented cases of genocide and crime against humanity in recent history.
Today, the situation remains dire. As the Arakan Army expands its control in northern Rakhine, Rohingya civilians have come under renewed attack. Reports describe village burnings, drone strikes, shelling of fleeing families, forced disappearances, and restrictions that amount to collective punishment. These actions mirror earlier patterns of violence and have deepened the humanitarian crisis.
The ARNA welcomes the UN resolution as a timely acknowledgment of these ongoing abuses. But acknowledgment alone is not enough. We urge UN member states and particularly the UN Security Council to take concrete steps to ensure justice and accountability. All perpetrators of atrocities must face consequences, whether they belong to the Myanmar military or non-state armed groups such as the Arakan Army. Impunity has fueled repeated waves of violence, and ending that impunity is essential for lasting peace.
We call for:
- Strong international support for justice mechanisms, including pathways to the International Criminal Court.
- Comprehensive monitoring of human-rights violations in Rakhine and unhindered humanitarian access.
- Coordinated diplomatic pressure on the military and the Arakan Army to halt attacks on civilians and respect minority rights.
- Enhanced support for Bangladesh and others hosting displaced Rohingya until conditions allow for safe, sustainable return.
The Arakan Rohingya National Alliance remains committed to working with governments, UN bodies and civil-society partners to advance justice, protection and a dignified future for the Rohingya people. The UN resolution provides an important step forward the responsibility now is to turn its commitments into action.

About ARNA:
The Arakan Rohingya National Alliance (ARNA) was established to unify all Rohingya leadership and establish a cohesive policy framework for the community. It serves as an alliance of Rohingyas from within Myanmar, refugee camps, internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps, and the Rohingya diaspora.
Main Objective of ARNA
The primary objective of ARNA is to unify the Rohingya people under one alliance, amplifying their voices, and to achieve their right of self-determination within the Federal Union of Myanmar. This includes advocating for their right to return to their homes, securing justice for atrocities committed against them, and ensuring their political and human rights are recognized and upheld.
